Sarabande and Retaliation
for Saxophone Ensemble or Horn Choir

"Sarabande and Retaliation" begins with a tense, constricted, and passionate sarabande which gradually builds up to a powerful climax but ends only with a partial resolution.

The second movement is a response to the tension and constriction of the sarabande: it is aggressive and not nearly as boxed in metrically or harmonically .

"Sarabande and Retaliation" was composed for the Austin Saxophone Ensemble

The horn choir version was created for and premiered by the UT Horn Choir, who won the Large Ensemble competition
at the 2015 International Horn Symposium in Los Angeles using "Sarabande and Retaliation" as the primary piece

premiere performance: Austin Saxophone Ensemble

live performance: December 10, 2016
