Prelude and Fugue
for Wind Band (Grade 6)

*Finalist in the 2013 Frank Ticheli Composition Contest*

"Prelude and Fugue" is a contemporary version of the genre made famous by JS Bach:
It begins with a somewhat Brahmsian prelude, which builds and becomes progressively passionate, dissonant, and technically challenging.
When the prelude is finally about to resolve, it is interrupted by a wild, angular, and intense fugue.
The fugue eventually begins to relax, and when the prelude returns set against the fugue, it is finally able to reach its full resolution!
